History

1949
The Electricity and Radio Wave School is established.
1961
Approval to establish an incorporated educational institution Kimigafuchi Gakuen is obtained. Kimigafuchi Radio Wave Technical High School is established, and the Department of Electronics Industry, Department of Telecommunications (3-year course), and Advanced Course (2-year course) are all opened.
1967
Kumamoto Institute of Technology is established. The Department of Electronics, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Department of Industrial Chemistry in the Faculty of Engineering are all established.
1969
The Department of Architecture in the Faculty of Engineering is also established.
1973
The Department of Electrical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering opens.
1976
The Department of Structural Engineering and Department of Applied Microbial Technology in the Faculty of Engineering are opened.
1982
The Graduate School of Engineering is established.
l998
The Department of Industrial Chemistry changes its name to Department of Applied Science.
2000
The university name changes from Kumamoto Institute of Technology to Sojo University.
The Faculty of Art is established, and the Department of Applied Life Sciences opens in the Faculty of Engineering.
2001
The Department of Electronics changes its name to Department of Electronic Information Network Engineering, the Department of Electrical Engineering changes to Department of Applied Electric Information Engineering, and the Department of Structural Engineering changes to Department of Aerospace Systems Engineering.
The Research Center for Advances in Impact Engineering opens.
The Japanese Course for International Students is established.
2004
The Graduate School of Art is established.
2005
The Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences (Department of Electronic Information Network, Department of Software Science, and Department of Computer System Technology), Faculty of Biotechnology and Life Sciences (Department of Applied Microbial Technology, Department of Applied Life Sciences), and Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences) are all established.
2006
The Applied Microbiological Research Laboratory opens.
2007
The Aviation Maintenance Course in the Department of Aerospace Systems Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering is established.
The Department of Applied Science in the Faculty of Engineering is transformed to the Department of Nanoscience.
2008
The Aviation Pilots Course in the Department of Aerospace Systems Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering is established.
2009
The Department of Electronic Information Network, Department of Software Science, and Department of Computer System Technology in the Faculty of Information Technology are combined to form the Department of Computer and Information Sciences.
2010
The English learning facility, SILC (SOJO International Learning Center), is established.
2011
The DDS (Drug Delivery System) laboratory opens.
2012
The Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences is established.
2016
The Monozukuri Innovation Center is established.
